Today I found my way to Vivo City. Now I understand John who said “In Singapore [he] learned to love shopping”. No worries, it is still me. I didn’t really go for shopping. I was just searching for the recommended food republic food hawker. I don’t know how I ended up being on the roof – the view from there was amazing! I was already excited about a colourful enlightened building on the top of a hill before I turned around and saw the harbor! I couldn’t stop looking at it. The whole roof of vivo city is an organic architecture with lots of water and exactly the amount of people a frau klein can deal with these days. Not abandoned and not crowdy. I enjoyed walking around there and stopping at every other place .. i loved the silence, the wind and the atmosphere. I really can imagine living here (accompanied).

For dinner I got some cantonese food which I consider almost as bad as the cockroach dinner. Later I got some coconut cake which was interesting to see how it was made, looked nice but was not my kind of liking. Anyways. Pictures attached.

Monday. It was really just about work. I asked the taxi driver to drop my at people park complex, I just had a quick walk, got to Maxwell Food Court, got some so-so soup and went back to the hotel. Before that I found a tiny super market and got all remaining drinks I didn’t try so far. They were all too sweet ;)

Apparently I like walking around at night here even when the temperatures are still hot and humid. I came along a poster warning that low crime doesn’t mean no crime .. imagine such a poster in Ireland or Germany! Although.. this has also its flip side. Having chats about daily life in Singapore at lunch time somehow reminds me a bit to brave new world or orwell’s 1984.

I have been in a strange mood all day. It is the third week here. I am still excited -  I am in Singapore – yeah! but now it feels like a day-to-day life I am having here. And for that I miss a few people and amenities from back home…

Bee Hoon recommended this page Amazing Singapore

I must say that www.amasingapore. com is an interesting and humorous site which I would recommend for your reading. It touches on topics like Impressions and Curiosities from “fire truck, a fine city, fake monks” to ” ‘twalking’ in Orchard Road” etc.

On Sunday I slept long… long! I got up around noon time, had some left overs from the day before and left to meet up with a work mate. The initial idea was to go to Sentosa in the morning… Anyways we had some malayan lunch – rice, vegetables, lung and beef padang and went then to the Singapore Malaysian heritage center. I didn’t realize that Singapore is that young – not older than 200 years.

There was also an exhibition about mosques in Germany – interesting but unfortunately only focused on architecture. I would have been interested in when they were built, a map where mosques are and the history how they came to Germany.

Close by the heritage center there was the oldest mosque in Singapore – the Sultan Mosque. After that I got into a lazy Sunday mood, i picked the MRT, got to a food stall, got some nasty junk food and went back to the hotel.
